Personal Development

Over the summer I have been collecting a wide range of media, from newspaper reports to magazine articles based on fashion and textiles. As well as literature I have also collected images and fabric samples which have inspired me and which I think may be useful for future projects. The images I have collected have inspired me to start getting back into the swing of drawing, ready for the start of term in septermber. At the moment I want to explore working with laying down base background colours and then working into the blocks of colour with detail. This is to develop my drawing skills for both my textile development as well as fashion illustration skills. I want to be able to drawing fluently and confidently with line and colour. The only way I can becoem confident is to practise and develop my work fully. I plan to keep a visual journal, where I record quick sketches, colour pallets, fashion illustrations, and textures and details that will inform my work at a later date. In doing this I will be effectively teaching my self how to draw effectively and confidently.

This week I plan intend to go to Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery, to use the resourses they have available. The libary there holds textiles magazine, such as Salvadge, which I wish to read to see what has been happening in the latest edition. I also want to research new designers and artist that may inform my work at the begining of term. While I am there I will take the oppertunity to look at the latest exhibiton, by Suffolk based artist.

Over the next week or so I plan to get my ticket to London Fashion week, where I hope to see my first show! It will be a very exciting day and a great experience to kick off my second year. Here I wil be able to see forthcoming trends and colour predictions.

Vogue September Issue

Louis Vuitton's collection caught my eye in next months edition of Vogue. I love the 1950's look and the sequined detailing. The A-lined skirts are a personal favouite and I shall be looking for a pair of elbow length gloves for myself this autumn.
